Internet safety is being safe on the internet. It’s a very important topic because the internet can be a very dangerous place and most of the time you may not even realize what you are doing on the internet isn’t safe. One thing that isn’t safe is randomly giving out personal information such as phone number, full name, address, etc. Something you can do to help with internet safety is to ask permission of your parents, especially if you are going on social media because lots of bad things can come from it such as inappropriate talk, cyber-bullying, hacking, etc. Also, some sites and places on the internet can hurt your computer and give away your information to hackers. That is why being safe online is important to me, and sometimes you should just take a break from the internet.

A digital footprint is the digital trail you leave when on a digital device. Some examples of a digital footprint are posts, browsing history, things you say on the internet, pictures, comments, etc. A positive digital footprint is important because they can define who you are to a stranger if they gain access by searching or otherwise to you through looking at your digital footprint. Being a positive, smart, and aware person will help you leave a good digital footprint. Also, because admission offices, officers, future employers, etc. may look up your digital footprint and may even be able to see it. That is why I care about my digital footprint and reputation. I will think before I go places and do things on the internet and ask myself if it’s really a good idea to do *the thing* before doing it. I will be careful about what I post on the internet and social media. It’s also a good idea to check privacy policies and make sure my site is “secure.” This is critical because virtually everything you do on the internet (your/my) digital footprint could be there forever, and most times will not go away, even if you delete the app/whatever you did/etc.
